Face search exists. It just isn't on your side.
The public face-search engines will look up anyone's face for anyone who asks. No proof, no consent, no check. That makes them extraordinarily useful to stalkers — and it's why they live under permanent regulatory and press pressure.
The big platforms opted out entirely.
Google has declined to sell identity-level face recognition since 2018. A reasonable position — but it means nobody built the safe version, and the gap got filled by people who weren't worried about it.
So you're left checking by hand.
Searching your own name, scrolling profiles, asking friends to look. It doesn't scale, it doesn't cover much, and it means living with the question open.
How it works
Three steps, and the middle one is the product.
Enrol, once
A short live camera scan — a blink, a turn of the head. It has to be the camera, never a saved photo, because that's the rule everything else rests on. The scan becomes a mathematical template on your phone. The photos themselves are discarded on the spot.
Get verified, every time
Every photo you submit is matched against your enrolment before a search runs. Yours, and it searches. Someone else's, and it stops. Not a rule in a terms document — a gate in the code that has no way around it.

Results arrive sorted: accounts you've claimed, platforms you haven't, and anything unknown or adult — blurred until you choose to look. Keep watching with monitoring, and we'll tell you only when something genuinely new turns up.
The part that matters
The most important screen in ShotProof is the one that says no.
Point it at someone else's face and it refuses. That refusal is not a limitation we're apologising for — it's the product. It is the reason nobody can point ShotProof at you.
Your face is never compared against a database of other people, because there is no database. Each template is only ever matched against its own owner. ShotProof is structurally incapable of answering the question "who is this stranger" — which is the one question we never want it to answer.
That's not you — so we can't search it.
ShotProof only searches for the person who enrolled on this account. That's the whole point: nobody can use ShotProof to find you, either.

Your face never leaves your phone.
A face-search company holding a database of faces would be an accident waiting to happen. So we don't hold one — there's nothing on our servers to leak, subpoena, or sell.
Stored on your device
Your face template is generated on your phone and stays in its secure hardware. Our servers only ever receive a yes or no, never the template itself.
Nothing is kept from a search
The photo you search is used for the lookup and discarded immediately. We don't build an index of the faces we've seen, because that index is precisely the dangerous object.
Delete it all, yourself
Account deletion destroys your template and results immediately, from inside the app, with written confirmation. No support ticket, no waiting.
New phone, new scan
Because nothing is stored centrally, a new device means enrolling again. Fifteen seconds. That's the trade, and we think it's the right one.
Questions
The things people ask first.
Can I search for someone who isn't me?
No. Not with permission, not for a good reason, not for a fee. Every search is face-matched against your enrolment first, and there is no setting, tier or support request that turns that off.
How do you know the person searching is the person in the photo?
Enrolment is a live camera scan with liveness checks, so it can't be done from a saved photo, a printout or a screen. After that, the photo you search has to match the face you enrolled with. If it doesn't, the search never runs.
What about twins, or a photo of me from ten years ago?
Identical twins are a genuine limitation and we'd rather say so. Old photos sometimes fall below the match threshold — when that happens you'll be offered a quick re-scan rather than a flat refusal. We tune deliberately towards refusing you occasionally rather than ever accepting the wrong person.
Do you search Tinder, Hinge or Instagram?
No, and nor does anyone else — those platforms are closed to outside search. We cover the open, indexed web thoroughly and repeatedly. If a fake profile's photo also appears anywhere public, which it very often does, that's where we'll find it.
What happens to my face data if the company is sold or breached?
There's nothing to transfer or breach. Templates live in your phone's secure hardware and are never uploaded, so there's no central store to be acquired, leaked or handed over.
When can I get it in the United States?
Shortly after the first launch. Several US states have strict biometric consent laws with heavy penalties, and we'd rather have our consent process confirmed by lawyers before we open there than move fast and apologise later. Join the list and we'll tell you the moment it's live.
